More people die on the sako river each year than we'd expect by random chance. Even if there are, it may have a natural cause. There is more than one version of how the curse supposedly started. And even if squander really did try to curse the river, that doesn't mean the curse had any effect. What about the buxport witch's foot curse? Did someone really curse colonel buck so that an image of her foot would appear on his grave? So what really happened anyway? No one knows.
