The Importance of Metrics in Chinese Life
The Chinese government put a lot of emphasis on developing metrics for their universities to try to get them top ranked within world rankings. And promotions there are heavily based upon, you know, the number of articles that you publish and so on. One of the effects that that is had is that it leads to a tremendous amount of faking results in order to get published articles. It's also a phenomenon that you find elsewhere in the world of science too as these metric evaluations have become more and more important.
