Pike and his ban had itself, aiming to connect with the Arkansas River. He turned up the river, determined to find the headwaters of the Arkansas. On November 15th, Pike cited what appeared to be a small blue cloud to the west. This was his first glimpse of the Rocky Mountains - known today as Pike's Peak.
