What Is Arthur?
In many places we find belief in a sort of god or goddess of the hunt, a kind of diana type figure. And arthur seems to be roughly in that kind of theme. From the early one thousands, there is surviving one fairly long s poem called culuk and olwen. In verse, a young man named culick is decreed by magic to marry a young woman - but he must pass tests and trials. This is a common theme in epic literature. So this poem is the first known reference to arthur as a king.
