Rice production is responsible for 12% of the world's total meat and emissions. Rice production produces as much greenhouse gases as in countries entire transportation sector. There are many rice varieties that can be planted that are far less resource intensive or more nutritious. I spoke to Jean Bal Erie, who runs the International Rice Research Institute.
