Collaborative Filtering Is Only as Good as the Data It's Working Ofer
Spotify hired two machine learning engineers to improve its music recommendations. They used a technology called collaborative filtering, which looks for patterns based on how often two items appear in the same set. The problem with collaborative filtering is that it doesn't pay any attention to the content or style of the tracks themselves - only if they appear together. In other words, colebative filtering is only as good as the data it's working ofer.
