Irish Immigrants - I Didn't Recognize You
I don't think anybody, including the overwhelming majority of irish americans, has any idea of the nightmare ist going to say they ware a far more tromatized immigrant group than any imigrant group. So they had no desire to join what was very much a protestant, yankee, english worshipping army. A and so theres not a lot of incentive for them to join. They didn't join in the same numbers that germans did. And germans were over represented by 50% in union armies compared to their numbers in the population. Irish were four % over and that four % is accounted more by their extreme poverty gan than their patriotism.
