The Effect of the Pound on Exports
A pound which could have got you one euro and 40 cents back at the end of 2015, can now only get you about one euro and 14 cents today. Have we seen a boom in exports? No, it's really hard to see it in the data. A falling exchange rate reflects the fact that we are less competitive or less attractive to foreign investors. It is a reflection of our diminished state, not a cause of it.
