Christopher Harborne - The Biggest Political Donor of Our Time
Christopher Harborne is not what you call a household name. But he has quietly become one of the biggest political donors of our time. He's a British-born, Bangkok-based businessman and crypto-lobius. In 2001 started giving small-ish sums averaging £15,000 a year to Conservative Party. That changed in 2019, when he gave more than £6 million to the Brexit Party including 3 million in the run-up to the general election. His dual identities caused a stir after they were highlighted in a BBC panorama programme back in 2020. The big thing he's done is bought us a really good coffee machine, said a source for the party at the time.
