The Cost of Discipleship
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, writing under the auspices of Nazi Germany and a German church that really had gone the way of compromise and complicity. In his most famous book that he called the cost of discipleship, he said this: "When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die" For Jesus, step one on the spiritual journey is to embrace a lifestyle of death to self. That is how you enter the kingdom of God through the cross.
