The Death of Galen

Galen, like Aristotle, took the innate heat to be of central importance. He believed that respiration's role was in moderating this innate heat. When Galen died in around 200 AD, his vast body of writing would be taken as fact by various successors. Although his work would be revised and commented upon over the succeeding centuries, it would not really be surpassed until the 16th century. And so, in many ways,  the death of Galen marks the decline of science in the classical world.
