CHAPTER

The Most Important Form of Strength for Endurance Running

Explosive strength refers to how rapidly we're developing force within a specific short time constraint. It differs from maximum relative strength and perhaps the most important form of strength for endurance running is reactive or plyometric strength. The more energy return that we can get from elastic tissues, the better because essentially it allows us to save energy for later on during a training session or a race. Training reactive strength with plyometric training primarily is a really useful way of developing force in runners.
