Back in the day it was considered a very controversial thing, but now it's very open. We've all got tangles and accumulation of the psychic traumas of our past that make us and shape us to what we are now. There is still tremendous stigma among populations that would really profoundly benefit from therapeutic interventions. Even though it's much more pervasive and ubiquitous in the culture, it's still too much localized in a particular sort of socioeconomic class.
