The hebrew people are now an oppressed, colonial subject under rome. And even as the life of liberated israel develops after the exodus, their whole system of a political rule is set up around a system that resists monarchs and hereditary rulers. That is the very context in which jesus aa begins his own ministry. His challenge was directly to this religious political order that had refused god's sovereignty.
