Iti itis one of my favourite novels precisely because it portrays thatqueerlay, sort of the western equivalent of a sida sidata. The amount of genuine value that people have in termsof monetary or in terms of other things is so abysmally small ther. It's just a culture of resentment in the face of this aesthetic veil that we were talking about w yu know, all these cars are on credit, and people absolutely kill themselves, quite literally, to maintain this. Whereas to walk away from it, that's scary, but that's the way tha freedom lies.
