The Origins of the African Green Monkey Virus
In the 1960s, tens of thousands of African green monkeys were exported each year from Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea, and Uganda. This is where the monkeys linked to the 1967 outbreak were ultimately traced. At least several hundred monkeys were shipped from Entebbe, Uganda to Germany via London. In Belgrade for quarantine, there's three shipments of 100 monkeys each; 21% of one shipment died during quarantine.
