To resist victimization by means of counter violence would simply stoke the proliferation of violence, sacrifice seeks to contain. To use a practical example from pop culture, Luke has to defeat the Emperor and Vader. The Emperor must die because he represents absolute malevolence, absolute chaos. Vader represents redemption through sacrifice.
