Greek Orientalism in the Classical Period

The Greeks were proper chauvinists and didn't think of their Near Eastern neighbors as equals. But at the same time they idolized them in certain respects. There is overall a consensus that peoples, like the Egyptians and Mesopotamians, were of a more ancient continuity of culture than the Greeks. To address all the Greek evidence for this claim, we need to come to grips with Greek Orientalism.
