Oral Rehydration Therapy Saved the World From Childhood Diarrhea

Oral rehydration therapy was discovered in the 1960s, and it really is one of the great medical advances of the 20th century. It's that the basic solution to how people treated cholera was to give intravenous fluids. But children loss or just people lose so much fluids that you would have to give them three, four, five gallons of IV fluids in order to replace all the losses. So today, more than 50 years after its discovery, we still don't have half the children in the world who have diarrheal illness.
