The Effects of Fire on the Rain Forests of the Amazon and Indonesia

The vast majority of fires in the rain forests of the Amazon and Indonesia are man-made. The result of deforestation and clearing of farmland by what is termed slash and burn. Farmers also often dry out the naturally wet soil so that it can be used for planting. In 2015 blazes started in this way in Indonesia led to the worst wildfire season in a century.
