Baldwin: Stories are really critical and this is Aristotle to character formation. What you choose to leave out oftentimes reveals the limits of your idea of justice. So what Baldwin is insistent upon is that we tell ourselves these stories in order to perpetuate or protect our innocence when history is replete with our sins, as it were.
