Insomnia - Is There a Network in the Brain?

There are two large scale networks in the brain that show changes in patience with insomnia. The first is a set of brain regions that link together to form what we call the default mode network, associated with ruminating and thinking about the past or prospecting out for the future. The secondNetwork is involved in things such as detecting threats and also instigating changes in our moods and our emotional reactivity.
