Is There a Fear Response in Animals?
A new study shows that fear is not just a negative arousal, like an arousal you wouldn't want to have. A region of the central brain called the xifoid nucleus seems to be involved in the fear response. Scientists can turn on and off or increase or decrease the activity of this structure while animals are experiencing fear. They would go from fear to courage, if you will.
