The Early Modern Era - The Printing Revolution
The printing press ushered in a new era of debate and a flourishing of the public sphere. But it also helped to consolidate power over ideas for particular institutions that made use of it. The papacy created an official, standardized index of forbidden works from 15 59 up until 19 66. It was because of this military revolution that the crown was able to sort of get a handle on printings.
