The Lleniency of the Parole Board

Six men convicted of kidnapping a 26-year-old woman in Canada were granted early parole. The kidnappers' wealthy and influential family members wrote letters to the parole board offering extraordinary excuses for why their sentences were too high. It's shocking to look back and see just how much the physical and psychological violence involved in the kidnapping of Mary Nellis was downplayed several times in the criminal justice system.
