The song proper ends with the sound of an explosion, and then a slow guitar instrumental. While the only songwriter credited is Lee, both Eccles and McLean at different times have claimed to have written this coder. The group had become good friends with the Buffalo Spring Field, and Lee had been inspired by their record Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing. And he'd come up with a similar sounding instrumental, which for now was titled, Hummingbird.
