Functional Programming on the JVM

Scala is a functional programming language on the JVM. It's not just nice syntax and being able to pass around functions as first all values, but it's also kind of a mindset like maybe some social saying as to how we how we program or so on. And I think immutability is one thing that really sets it apart. As for why not closure, I like static typing a lot. I think it's psychological traits maybe, I don't know.
