Using Grid Cells to Encode High Dimensional Variables
There is a theory from our lab where you could actually use two dimensional grid cell modules to encode higher dimensional variables. Some people have suggested learning grid cells based on the structure of a space that you're traversing. It's not far-fetched to think that maybe we are using the same mechanism for learning other kinds of structures.
