Managing Up - Is This a Good Thing?
It really is easy in the roles that we're in to forget to put your own oxygen mask on first. A hazard of doing that is if you don't have a manager that understands that, that's on the same page as you and doesn't expect heroic behavior out of you. I would extend that vulnerability to somebody that reports to you as well. It wouldn't be an episode of managing up if I didn't feel personally called out.
