Hobsbom's Life and Work

Hobsbom was a member of what he called court, the reddest and most radical generation in cambridge's history. He joined the local student branch of the communist party but soon realised that agit prop work was not his true calling. In interesting times, his autobiography commemora, he claimed never to have been recruited for the kind of work that was quite separ from the open activities of a legal political party. But he acknowledged that he would certainly have taken on such work if he had been asked.
