Supreme court justice stephen bryer is retiring at the end of the court's term in june. It means that this seat will continue to be held by some one reasonably liberal, who will vote in the way that bryer has historically voted. I think it also may represent a recognition on bryer's part that the sort of by partisan deal making that he has historically been very successful at as a justice is not something that his colleagues are interested in any more.
