Why Does the Millstone Turn?
i like to say, with the question, why does the millstone turn? There are two different ways of answering that question. They 're both valid ways of answering it, but they're completely different. And i won't get into all the implications of these different ways of looking at the world. But just suffice it to say that this teleological way of thinking is written into the idea of the great chain of being. You have god, angels, people, living organisms, buildings, houses, clouds, whatever. All of them fit into a sort of grand hierarchy. The higher beings plan and invision and govern the world. Then you have human beings who think and reason and act
