Is Consciousness a Will to Power?
I think collective power is what sustained us. It's in the nature of all things to eventually, you know, you discharge it, you grow weak and you go into a decline. Power doesn't last forever. Its discharging goes off into a new form that a decline of life is called by Nietzsche, decadence, corruption or weakness. And that is how he's describing consciousness here: something which on the whole weakens us. Whatever becomes conscious becomes cheapened and makes shallow the whole depth and intellectual and spiritual life of man.
