The Importance of Deterring Asylum Returns
I think it's unlikely that he'll be able to completely stop the boats. On the other hand, it's possible that he might be able to slow down the flow of migrants coming across the channel from France. That's pretty well contingent upon the Rwanda plan and whether or not the courts accept that the Rwanda plan is lawful. There is some disagreement, isn't there, about whether deterrence actually works? You're someone who's worked for the border force. Is there any evidence to suggest that it should work? Well, in my experience, there is a direct link between asylum intake and asylum returns.
