The Destructive Dimension of Envy

Treating patients for whom envy is a major feature of their personality structure can run into characteristic dilemmas. The patient begins to sabotage the treatment unconsciously by suddenly being self destructive breaking agreements or symptoms reappear. If such feelings of envy join forces with the political ideology that provides a seemingly rational justification for this aggression then disaster certainly can't be far off in many therapeutic situations.
