The Challenges of Ultrasound in Hepatitis C
The thumper test is an ultrasound probe with a little nubbin that comes off the end of it. We just press a button on it and it thumps them, sends a wave right through the liver. By doing so, I can tell us about the stiffness of the liver which correlates very closely to fibrosis. It's not perfect; this technology was developed in Europe with fairly thinner human beings than what was here in the United States.
