Are We Making a Mistake With Bitcoin Mining?

I do fundamentally believe in decarbonization and ultimately green transition. I think the path dependency of how you get there really matters, right? We probably don't have enough rare earth metals in the ground to make sufficient batteries to run a grid just on wind and solar. The Inflation Reduction Act was kind of a landmark act, creating many more subsidies for renewables. It is actually going to work to the benefit of miners looking to use renewables. But the underlying context is not a good one. It's that we're spending funds on less reliable renewables that could maybe be put to better use elsewhere. Miners thrive on that, right?
