In the UK, there is a bargaining code that was essentially implemented by the government called terms of trade. In the US, as you noted, it's taken or leave it and they basically make the production companies,. They effectively just get a fee to do what they do. You've killed that whole ecosystem of creativity. And it's getting worse because the theaters will increasingly not take chances on that edge contentbecause they need all their theaters to show Spider-Man.
