The Role of Affect in Cognition
Joseph Ladou says that cognition evolved before emotions. He argues that behavior should be assumed to be non-conscious unless proven otherwise. This goes against our intuition but it's actually solid from a scientific perspective. If emotions are cognitively constructed they could be unique to humans.
