The Space Race Was a Question of Prestige
The space race was very much a question of prestige and so on my work I focus on that. The number one country whose recognition Khrushchev craves is actually the United States. At the same time, the Soviet Union also craved recognition as the center of the revolutionary world. But those two policy aims were often in contradiction, which is why the Soviets found themselves moving to infrow.
