Gerard: It's definitely true that the median software engineer and the median, you know, journalist is much more similar in kind of preferences and lifestyle than the kind of average middle class person. But that is an interesting contradiction, right? Gerard: We tend to experience the most envy towards people who are similar to ourselves. So I think it's a useful lens to view interpersonal conflict generally.
