Christian nationalists believe that America is defined by Christianity, and the government should be taking active steps to keep it that way. This is completely antithetical to how our nation was actually set up, but they now have their hands in so many pots - from education, to voting, to human rights - and are backed by such an large amount of dark money, with seemingly endless connections, that the bottom line is if we don’t wake up to the danger of this movement, which in many ways runs parallel with the white nationalist moment and, these days MAGA Republicans, then we’re going to wake up in the near future to realized we live in some version of a Christian autocratic theocracy where our laws, lifestyles, even our morality is dictated by a select few, and the only choices we’ll have left will be conform or suffer. And if that sounds like the opposite of the freedom and liberty America is supposed to stand for, it’s because it is.
