The timeline for getting involved with these sorts of things may be longer than you realize. If there's a little more structure and this is often the case for larger groups, there will usually be more positions. You'll often find a secretary or secretary slash treasurer. And then if there's names for everyone else, it's often things like maybe a member at large. Which doesn't mean you're obese, it just means you're not representing any specific interest.
