Cognitive Flexibility and Richness in Consciousness
I'm really drawn to this language of flexibility and rigidity within consciousness. I've been interested in thinking through how we can use or motivate particular economic policies aimed at reducing the prevalence of something like economic insecurity, for example. The more secure people are economically, at least presumably to a point, to a threshold, probably somewhere where the marginal benefit decreases, but the more flexible they can become. And if you look at the possibility landscape of their lives, certain economic policies can open those landscapes by reducing certain kinds of rigidity that are systematically brought on by certain circumstances or institutions or lack thereof. But ultimately, we need to find some kind of balance where the system provides the container for, again
