In 1656 there was a sort of general reformation of the Opitale system in Paris. The Opitale were not hospitals as we know them nowadays. They weren't specifically tasked with curing injuries and diseases. It was a place of confinement for people who were poor, for people who are sick or mad. And why would a society do that? Why would they?
