Winter wind speeds in Rocky Mountain National Park can be more than double what they are during the summer months. Winter winds further dry out already dry fuels and makes it more difficult to contain campfire sparks and embers. "The days of assuming the building in campfire during the winter because everything around you is snow covered are probably now in the rear view mirror," says John Zombro.
