How Do We Know From Fossils if Something Is an Egg Layer or a Placental Mammal?

Paleontologists use a magic trick to work out if fossils are from an egg layer or placental mammal. They look at the bones and teeth, which can tell them how long these animals were in the womb before they gave birth. If you see a fossil without those bones is really suggestive it was just state of time for large babies with a big placenta.
