In March preferred shares declined for most companies about half of the declines you saw in their common stocks. And now they've gone back up to where they were before, just like a lot of the common stocks have done. A preferred share will typically decline in value in two circumstances: One when interest rates are rising generally and another when there is some danger that the company may not be able to pay its shareholders.
