The Anti-Valene Prejudice of Richard II
By the late 17th century, Valene's original definition was on its way to becoming obsolete. In 1660, feudalism was abolished in England, leaving the fate of villain dangling in the wind. It could no longer be associated strictly with Valenes because Valenes no longer existed in the social hierarchy. To be a villain suddenly meant you were evil incarnate.
