The Widening Participation Movement
A report by the Social Mobility Commission in 2017 found that while 58% of academics reported coming from middle class family, 14% were from a working class background. The contributors to this book have demonstrated a tenacity and an attitude towards academic success that has led them to where they are now. Some have overcome feelings of failure and previous negative educational experiences. Others have experienced feelings of not belonging, tackling imposterism and a longing for something more for fulfilment and self-worth.
